Employment Services

We believe that a job provides much more than a paycheck. Employment provides independence, a sense of community, the pride and self-esteem that comes from being a productive team member, and personal fulfillment and satisfaction.

We are dedicated to providing Employment Services because we recognize that inclusive communities are comprised of inclusive workplaces. Although many workplaces strive to meet accessibility standards, having a job is still a commonly unmet need for many individuals with disabilities. Our Employment Services are dedicated to providing one-on-one job coaching and to breaking down the barriers to inclusion that exist in today’s workplaces for employees with disabilities. Based on individual needs and goals, our job coaches act as a liaison between an employee and their employer, provide assistance with developing self-advocacy skills, and encourage natural workplace supports.

To ensure the best work experience for employees, we are committed to cultivating not only effective support and training, but collaborative partnerships between individuals and their employers. Our specially trained job coaches support employees of many levels of need in a variety of workplaces across southern and central Maine. Coaching is always guided by an individual’s state-authorized Person Centered Plan (or Personal Care Plan). Each individual receiving Employment Services is paid a competitive wage for their work.

Creative Works has been at the forefront of providing meaningful work opportunities for individuals with disabilities for over 50 years. We operate a free-standing entrepreneurial social enterprise called Maine Woodworks, which builds beautiful Maine cottage-style furniture that is sold across the country. Maine Woodworks employs people both with and without disabilities, and operates successfully without state or federal support. Our craftspeople take pride and satisfaction in the work they do, in the quality of the bench-crafted furniture they build, and in their ability to support themselves and contribute meaningfully to the community. Most of all, they are proud to contribute to a successful business that has a social mission as well as a great product to share with the world.
